VRRT Squared - Finally!

Guy and I went back Navajo Lake to camp at Te-ah again for the weekend while the kids stayed home with Grant to hang out with their friends.

Guy has been talking about riding the Virgin River Rim Trail from the bottom to the top and back to the bottom in a day, hence, VRRT2. The Virgin River Rim Trail is a 33 mile single track trail along the rim of Cedar Mountain with views of Zion and Kolob. It is a very strenuous ride with steep climbs. There is about 10,000 ft. of climbing. He finally did it! Saturday, July 26, 2008. He left from our camp at Te-ah at 7am and rode to Strawberry Point (the top of the trail). He stopped at camp around noon to repair his fork, that took about 15 minutes and was off again to ride to Woods Ranch (the bottom) and back. He was back by 3p. He rode all 66 miles in 7 hours and 45 minutes.

I rode from Cascade to Lars Fork and met up with him in the morning. He had already been out for over three hours when I saw him. I climbed for five miles and was beat but I had a good excuse to take my time, I took some great photos.

The weather couldn't have been better. It was overcast between 60 and 65 degrees until around 1:30pm. Then the sun broke out and it got a little warmer. The single track is lush and tight in some places. I love riding in the forest.

He looks like he's ready to go again! As I post this two weeks later he is still recovering. The next day we rode Thunder Mountain together (14 miles) and then Monday we rode the "C" loop which is part of the VRRT, up Te-ah, down Dike, up Lodge, back down Te-ah (12 miles). I still can't keep up with him after he thrashes himself.

Now I just need to find a sponsor so he can ride the Brianhead Stage Race in August. He is definately in condition for it. He has been riding up at the mountain for 8 straight weeks. However, $450 is a lot of donuts!

work hard, play hard, rider harder.
